Five Reasons You Procrastinate

Written by Gabriel Gonsalves

There are five main reasons you ever procrastinate:

1) You’re scared.

2) You’re not clear.

3) You’re misaligned.

4) You shouldn’t be doing it at all.

5) Someone else should be doing instead.

Here’s what you should do:

1) Own that you don’t want to do it. Stop everything you’re doing and continue to step 2.

2) If you want to do it, but feel scared, do it anyway. Fear is a sign you’re breaking new ground and stepping out of your comfort zone.

3) If you want to do it but are unclear where to start, take a moment to become heart-coherent and ask yourself, “What’s the most effective way to go about this?” or “What’s one baby step I can take?”

4) If you want to do it, but feel misaligned, ask yourself, “Where is the misalignment?” or “How can I re-align myself?” Answering these questions might make you realize you shouldn’t be doing it all!

5) If you need it done but don’t want to do it, find someone who enjoys doing it. The world is full of people who would love to do it, and do it well.

Next time you find yourself avoiding that thing you “should” be doing, try following these five steps.
