Sometimes, a quote comes along that hits you straight in the middle of your heart. It touches you so profoundly that you stop everything you’re doing to feel deeply into what you just read. This is the case with Courtney A. Walsh’s ‘Dear Human,’ the reason why we humans got it all wrong when it comes to practicing unconditional love.
Dear Human
Dear Human: You’ve got it all wrong.
You didn’t come here to master unconditional love.
That is where you came from and where you’ll return.
You came here to learn personal love.
Universal love. Messy love. Sweaty love.
Crazy love. Broken love. Whole love.
Infused with divinity. Lived through the grace of stumbling.
Demonstrated through the beauty of… messing up. Often.
You didn’t come here to be perfect. You already are.
You came here to be gorgeously human. Flawed and fabulous.
And then to rise again into remembering.
But unconditional love? Stop telling that story.
Love, in truth, doesn’t need ANY other adjectives.
It doesn’t require modifiers.
It doesn’t require the condition of perfection.
It only asks that you show up. And do your best.
That you stay present and feel fully.
That you shine and fly and laugh and cry
and hurt and heal and fall and get back up
and play and work and live and die as YOU.
It’s enough. It’s Plenty.
Human Love vs Spiritual Love
Courtney’s words reminded me of what I’ve always known inside my heart about the difference between human love and spiritual love. Spiritual love is unconditionally limitless by nature. Human love will always be bound by our need to belong, be loved, seen, heard, and appreciated. That’s what makes it personal, imperfect, and messy.
As Heart Leaders and Heart Warriors, our challenge is to infuse our human love with more of this Divine Loving Essence. Like the olive oil infused with parmesan cheese they sell at the food market.
Responding to others from a place of compassion, kindness, and appreciation instead of shame, anger, and fear is how we grow our Spiritual Love muscle. It is also how we heal our hearts, embrace our shadows and transcend our self-imposed limitations.
Because despite everything that happened to you, all the mistakes you’ve made, and every flaw you or others think you have, in the eyes of Divinity, you are already perfect.
Just show up, be real, connected, and heart-directed. Let the rest come from your Divine Essence.
From my heart to yours,
