Have you ever wondered what it truly means to embody the mind and heart of Jesus? What would it look like to put his teachings into practice in our daily lives? If these questions resonate with you, you’re not alone. As a heart-centered leader, I’ve faced these challenges myself. Embodying Jesus’ mind and heart means living out his teachings through our everyday choices and actions, but it can be tough, especially when our behaviors don’t match our core values.
Through my own journey of awakening to Christ Consciousness, I’ve found a way to overcome self-imposed limitations, conquer self-limiting beliefs, and embody the transformative power of love. In this article, I’ll openly share my story and the lessons I’ve learned, encouraging you to awaken your inner Christ and become the authentic leader you’re meant to be. By exploring what it means to lead with love, compassion, and authenticity, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how to align your actions with your highest values and create a more positive impact in your life and the lives of those you lead and serve.
What is Christ Consciousness?
Christ Consciousness isn’t about religion or dogma. It’s about awakening to the unconditional love that flows from God’s heart to our human hearts. It’s about embodying the same mind and heart that Jesus had—a consciousness of love, compassion, forgiveness, and unity.
When you lead from Christ Consciousness, you treat others with unconditional love and respect, lead with humility and a servant’s heart, make decisions based on the greater good, create a culture of trust and collaboration, and empower others to reach their full potential. Essentially, it means asking yourself in every moment, “What would love do?” and letting that guide your actions and choices.
The Universal Nature of Christ Consciousness
The principles of Christ Consciousness aren’t limited to Christianity. Similar concepts can be found in other spiritual traditions, such as Krishna Consciousness in Hinduism and Buddha Nature in Buddhism.
According to the consciousness research of Dr. David Hawkins, a renowned spiritual teacher and author, these three avatars—Christ, Krishna, and Buddha—represent the same level of consciousness, calibrating at the highest level of 1,000 on his map. This suggests that the essential qualities of unconditional love, compassion, forgiveness, and unity are universal and transcend individual religious traditions.
For those who may have negative associations with the word “Christ” due to past religious experiences, alternative terms such as Love Consciousness, Compassion Consciousness, or Truth Consciousness can be helpful. Ultimately, these terms all point to the same essential qualities that lie at the heart of Christ Consciousness. I call these qualities The 12 Virtues of the Heart.
From Addiction to Awakening: My Story
For years, I struggled with an addiction to pornography and unresolved emotional pain from childhood sexual abuse. Despite my efforts to heal through the law of attraction, EFT, affirmations, and therapy, I couldn’t break free from these patterns. They created a deep distrust in people and held me back from fully embodying my potential as a spiritual teacher and coach.
One particularly challenging day, I hit a breaking point. I realized that I needed help beyond what I could provide for myself. In a moment of desperation and surrender, I wrote a letter to Jesus, acknowledging my imperfect, flawed nature and asking him to heal me and help me become the man and leader I came here to be.
What followed was a series of profound experiences, including visions during ayahuasca ceremonies where Jesus appeared to me and began to teach me about the true nature of love. These experiences marked the beginning of a transformative journey that would change the course of my life and leadership path.
Learning What Love Is Not
Through visions and revelations, I began to see how my addictive behaviors and emotional blocks were coping mechanisms to avoid facing deeper pain and a feelings of disconnection. I realized that my entire personality had been a fabrication, a series of mental and emotional programs designed to survive and cope with the world. If this isn’t who I am, then who am I really? I constantly asked myself.
In one particularly vision, Christ showed me that to progress on the path of love, to walk along side him, I needed to surrender all my preconceived notions about love, and let go of all the emotional and mental barriers I had built to protect my heart. I saw clearly that my human personality or ego, as well as my self imposed limitations, could only be transcended by a power much greater than myself: the power of Christ within me.
This realization was a turning point in my journey. It marked the beginning of a deeper surrender and trust in the transformative power of love.
Salvation as Liberation from Ignorance
In this light, I understood that the salvation Christ offers isn’t about going to heaven in an afterlife. It’s about being liberated from our own ignorance, limited perceptions, and unloving patterns. This understanding of salvation as liberation from ignorance echoes one of Jesus’ core teachings. When he said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do,” he pointed to the idea that the root cause of what we call sin is ultimately ignorance—not knowing better. The Buddha taught a similar principle, emphasizing that when we see someone act wrongly out of ignorance, it becomes easier to forgive them and recognize their inherent innocence.
Jesus was inviting me to walk a path of the heart, a path of love that required letting go of all my unlovingness as an expression of my love for God. I began to practice forgiveness – of myself and others – not just because it was the “Christian” thing to do, but as an expression of my commitment to walk the same path of radical love that Jesus embodied and taught. I learned that early Christianity was called “The Way,” just as Buddhism was. Jesus didn’t preach a religion, but a way of being and walking in the world with love, care, and forgiveness for all life, just as the Father loves us.
This understanding transformed my approach to leadership. Instead of striving to fix or control others, I began to focus on embodying the qualities of love, compassion, and forgiveness in my own life and leadership. I saw that this was the most powerful way to inspire and empower others to do the same.
Embodying Christ Consciousness in Practice: The Jesus Prayer and Guided Meditations
As I walked this path of healing and awakening, I discovered the profound transformative power of the Prayer of the Heart, also known as the Jesus Prayer. This ancient spiritual practice involves the repetition of a simple yet powerful phrase, such as “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me,” in sync with one’s breath and heartbeat.
Through consistent practice of the Jesus Prayer, I experienced a deepening of my connection to Christ Consciousness and a greater capacity to embody love, compassion, and presence in my daily life and leadership. I found that this prayer had the power to anchor me in the heart, even amidst the challenges and complexities of life and work.
Inspired by the transformative impact of this practice in my own life, I felt called to create a series of guided meditations to help others awaken the Christ within and experience the power of the Jesus Prayer for themselves. These meditations, which are available for purchase on my website and free on my YouTube channel, offer a practical and accessible way to begin or deepen your own journey of embodying Christ Consciousness.
Embodying Christ Consciousness in Leadership: What It Looks Like in Practice
So, what does it really mean to “embody the mind and heart that Jesus possessed” in our leadership style? What would that look like in practice, in tangible behaviors and choices?
Here are a few key aspects:
- Leading with Love: In every interaction and decision, ask yourself, “What would love do?” Seek to understand, empathize, and respond with compassion, even in challenging situations.
- Servant Leadership: Shift your focus from being served to serving others. Seek to empower, support, and bring out the best in your team members, colleagues, and customers.
- Forgiveness and Non-Judgment: When conflicts or mistakes arise, choose forgiveness over judgment. Look for the lesson and the opportunity for growth, and extend grace to yourself and others.
- Integrity and Authenticity: Align your actions with your highest values. Be transparent, honest, and authentic in your communication and decision-making.
- Holding Vision: Maintain a clear vision of the highest potential for yourself, your team, and your organization. Let this vision guide your choices and inspire others to rise to their best.
As I integrated these principles into my life and leadership, I experienced profound shifts in my relationships, effectiveness, and sense of fulfillment. I found that leading from Christ Consciousness not only transformed me but had a ripple effect on those around me.
The Invitation: Awaken the Christ Within You
My journey has shown me that awakening to Christ Consciousness is a deeply personal path of transformation, available to all who sincerely open their hearts and minds to embody the highest qualities of love. This is the reason why one of the modules of my Heart Leadership Framework focuses on Christ Consciousness, which I describe as the path of transcendence. For we can only transcend the limitations of our human egos, by invoking a power greater than the personality that created it.
If you feel called to lead from a place of greater authenticity, compassion, and service, I invite you to begin your own exploration of Christ Consciousness. Here are a few practical steps you can take:
- Cultivate a daily practice of prayer, meditation, or contemplation to connect with the love and wisdom of your heart. This could be as simple as setting aside a few minutes each day to sit in silence, practice the Prayer of the Heart, and tune into the presence of love within you.
- When faced with challenges or decisions, ask yourself, “What would love do?” Let this question guide you to choices aligned with your highest values. You may be surprised at the clarity and wisdom that emerges when you lead from this place.
- Practice forgiveness and compassion towards yourself and others. Remember that everyone is fighting their own battles and doing the best they can. When you find yourself judging or criticizing, take a moment to step back and choose a more loving response.
- Seek out mentors, communities, and teachings that support your journey of awakening and embodying Christ Consciousness. Consider exploring a transformative program like my Heart Leader Training, which provides a powerful container for healing, growth and transformation.
Remember, embodying Christ Consciousness is not a destination but an ongoing journey of growth and awakening. It requires courage to face your shadows, surrender your limitations, and allow the light of love to transform you from the inside out.
